Online sports betting actually saw the NFL playoffs take a back seat in the sportsbetting world on Monday with Mark McGwire finally admitting his past steroid use. McGwire was suspected to have used steroids but until Monday he never admitted using them.
Online sports betting is going to see McGwire in the spotlight this coming season since he is the new hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals. McGwire would have been grilled constantly about the steroid issue so he took the offensive and got everything out in the open as online sports betting noted. “Now that I have become the hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals, I have the chance to do something that I wish I was able to do five years ago.” McGwire said, “I never knew when, but I always knew this day would come. It’s time for me to talk about the past and to confirm what people have suspected. I used steroids during my playing career and I apologize.”
Online sports betting had seen home runs become a large part of the game since the 1990’s and steroids were a big reason why. McGwire is now confirming what many in sportsbetting already believed. “I remember trying steroids very briefly in the 1989/1990 off season and then after I was injured in 1993, I used steroids again.” McGwire said, “I used them on occasion throughout the ’90s, including during the 1998 season.”
McGwire said that he called Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa to apologize. Whether the admission was McGwire’s idea or whether it came from Selig or La Russa is unknown in sportsbetting but there is no doubt that someone had the idea.
Some star players have admitted steroid use in recent online sports betting years including Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte. Others that are suspected of using steroids have not come clean including Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, David Ortiz, Sammy Sosa and other players.
Online sports betting on baseball will always look back to the 1990’s and 2000’s as the steroid era. There were so many players that were using steroids as sportsbetting indicated and only a few have admitted use. Looking back on it in online sports betting, players like Jose Canseco and Jason Giambi at least admitted their use and now others, like McGwire and Rodriguez have done the same.
