Sports betting was popular on UFC 104 over the weekend, especially on the main even between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua.
It was Machida winning in online sports betting as he got a unanimous decision over Rua.
Sports betting had Machida as a big favorite in the fight at the sportsbook but it didn’t go as planned as many in the crowd believed that Rua should have gotten the win. "My corner told me that I was winning all the rounds," Rua said. "I feel like I won this fight, but a fight is a fight. What can I do?" The longer this sports betting bout went, the better that Rua got. It didn’t prove to be enough but there is no question he gave Machida a scare. The early rounds in this sports betting bout were close but Machida did enough to outpoint Rua. The last couple of rounds were all Rua but it was not enough to overcome the lead by Machida. All three of the judges scored the bout 48-47 for Machida even though many, including Machida were not sure he had won. It was definitely a fight that drew a lot of sports betting interest at the online sportsbook and was fun to watch.
In the other main event it was Cain Velasquez winning in sports betting against Ben Rothwell. The fight was stopped early which was controversial but not many sports betting people believed that Rothwell had a chance. Velasquez easily won the first round and was on his way to dominating Rothwell but the referee stopped the fight. This bout wasn’t much to watch and Velasquez proved he was worthy of being the favorite at the sportsbook. "Coming off the last win, I wanted to keep improving and getting better, and that’s what I’m doing," Velasquez said.
Also on the main sports betting card it was Gleison Tibau winning against Josh Neer by decision. It was not really that close as Tibau dominated most of the online sports betting fight.
One of the upsets in sports betting in UFC 104 was when Joe Stevenson beat Spencer Fisher. It didn’t last long as Stevenson caught Fisher in the second round forcing a stoppage. Also in online sports betting it was Anthony Johnson winning by knockout over Yoshiyuki Yoshida. It didn’t take long for this bout to end in online sports betting as Johnson won in the first round.
