Sports betting had Florida State vacating wins from the 2006 and 2007 season including 12 football victories.The Seminoles lost the wins as part of a penalty for an academic fraud scandal that involved 61 student-athletes. Online sports betting stats will now show that head coach Bobby Bowden retired with 12 fewer wins.
Sports betting had the football team losing five wins from the 2006 season plus the Emerald Bowl victory at the end of that season and another seven wins from the 2007 online sports betting year. Bowden did have 389 wins in his career but that total will now only be 377.
The scandal involved cheating in an online music history course that involved 61 student-athletes. “The Florida State University, in consultation with counsel, has reviewed the athletic records and academic data from the investigation to determine which competitions would be vacated,” the university said in a statement. “This final determination was based on student-athlete academic records and interviews compiled during the investigation.”
There were a number of other penalties that Florida State suffered. Sports betting had them losing their 2007 NCAA Division I men’s track and field title. They lost 22 men’s basketball wins from 2006-07, two of which were in the NIT. The women’s basketball team lost 16 wins from 2006-07 as sports betting stats showed and six more from 2007-08. Other sports also suffered as online sports betting indicated, as the school lost wins in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track, men’s and women’s swimming and diving and men’s golf teams. Florida State was able to choose to some extent some of the wins that were lost. Sports betting had them choosing to lose 32 wins from 2006-2007 in softball and four in baseball from that same time period. They also dropped from 2nd to 4th place in track at the NCAA championship.
Florida State is coming off another disappointing online sports betting season in football. The Seminoles were 7-6 both straight up and against the sports betting odds. They did get a bowl win to send Bowden out with a victory but overall the sports betting season was a disappointment and it has been that way for a few years for Florida State. Next sports betting season in football they will be led by their new coach, Jimbo Fisher who has been the offensive coordinator for many years under Bowden.
