Chelsea is one point ahead of Arsenal and four points clear of United. The Blues are now in control of their own destiny and they should be favored the rest of the season in sportsbetting odds.
Sports betting odds may not favor Manchester United as much the rest of the year. United lost striker Wayne Rooney last week to an injury and they have serious concerns for the rest of the Premier League season and they may not even be able to get past Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the Champions League. United was not able to win at home against Chelsea on Saturday and even though the score was 2-1, Chelsea dominated the match. Joe Cole and Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea and the Blues were simply more ready to play. “Of course we were fresher than United,” Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said, “When you play a Champions League game you lose a lot of energy.”
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said that the title is pretty much gone. “Chelsea are definitely the favorites now, no question. They are in the driving seat. I’m certain we’ll respond but we could win all five of our games now and still not win. They have a better goal difference so they’re in a great position.”
United has no time to feel sorry for themselves. They host Bayern on Wednesday in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal. United has to get a positive sportsbetting result since they lost the first leg 2-1 on the road. “We have to lift the players. It’s such an important European tie with the chance to qualify for the Champions League semi- final and go on to a final in Madrid, so that should be incentive enough.” Ferguson said.
Chelsea is the sports betting favorite. The schedule might present a couple of challenges though. The home games against Bolton, Stoke and Wigan look like sure wins. The two road matches are what will decide things. They are at Tottenham next weekend and at Liverpool in early May. Arsenal has to travel to Tottenham this weekend so whichever team can pull out a road win may be the team that wins the title. If they end up tied then Chelsea is going to win because of their goal differential advantage.
