Triple Crown Preakness Stakes Odds at SBG Global

Preakness Stakes odds are the second part of the Triple Crown with the race taking place on the third Saturday each May. Preakness odds for the 2008 race will have Big Brown as the horse trying for the elusive Triple Crown. Preakness Stakes odds may have Big Brown as the heavy favorite but can he win the Triple Crown?

Preakness Stakes odds will have Big Brown as the odds-on favorite but that doesn’t mean he will win. His trainer is not promising that he will win. “We’re going to hope and go and we’ll see,” Big Brown trainer Rick Dutrow said, “But with just two weeks to prepare, I won’t really know.” It is tough to win a Triple Crown and just because a horse is favored in Preakness Stakes odds does not mean he will win. Dutrow knows just how hard it is to win the Triple Crown and just how great a horse has to be.

“I know it looks like he’s the best horse, but he is going to have to show he’s great in the next five weeks. I don’t see that he’s beaten a great Derby field, not like Secretariat did. That Secretariat field was the best crop I’ve seen in my lifetime and he took them to the cleaners every time.” Preakness Stakes odds show that the race is just two weeks after the Kentucky Derby and that is a tough turnaround. The Belmont Stakes is then three weeks after Preakness odds. Affirmed was the last Triple Crown winner in 1978. A total of 9 horses have won the Derby and the Preakness since that time and then failed in the Belmont.

Usually in Preakness Stakes odds the Derby winner will be favored followed by horses that were also in the Kentucky Derby. That may not be the case in 2008 as none of the other Derby horses look to want to try Big Brown again. He could be favored at 2-5 or possibly even 1-5 Preakness Stakes odds on May 17th. It is possible that the field could be 10 or 11 horses for Preakness odds but it might be that all of them will be newcomers, having not raced in the Derby. That Preakness Stakes odds situation has not occurred in 60 years when Citation was the only horse from the Derby to race in the Preakness odds field. It just so happens that Citation is the biggest favorite in Preakness Stakes odds history, going off at Preakness Stakes odds of 1-10. And yes, he did win in Preakness Stakes odds.
