Super Saver a Slight Favorite in 2010 Preakness Odds

Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver is the 5-2 morning line favorite in 2010 Preakness odds. He will start from the 8th post position and his Preakness Stakes betting odds could drop to about 9-5 before post time. 2010 Preakness odds list three horses at single-digit odds for Saturday’s 135th Preakness Stakes. Super Saver is 5-2, Lookin at Lucky is 3-1 and Paddy O’Prado is 9-2.  The Preakness field was expected to be full with 14 starters but horses have pulled out this week so there will be only 12 starters on Saturday.  The post position shouldn’t be a factor with 12 horses running. “I don’t think the post position matters in this race,” Super Saver trainer Todd Pletcher said.

Lookin at Lucky was the favorite in the Kentucky Derby but he will be the second choice on Saturday in 2010 Preakness odds behind Super Saver.  Calvin Borel won the Derby and the Preakness last year but he did it on different horses.  He rode Mine That Bird in the Derby while he got aboard Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness.  Borel has been very successful recently in Triple Crown races. He has four wins on four different horses, a second and two thirds.

Super Saver worked well in advance of Saturday’s Preakness.  He worked earlier this week with Borel in the irons. “It was real good — just what we wanted,” Borel said. “He switched leads on key — we’ve been working on that a little bit. It was perfect. You couldn’t ask for better, I don’t think.” Trainer Todd Pletcher has been very pleased with how well Super Saver has rebounded from the Derby. “I wanted to see how he was getting over the ground and what his energy level looked like and his enthusiasm,” Pletcher said. “He went as easy as a horse could go and was getting over the ground great. He seemed very happy and enthusiastic. It was very, very good.”
