Preakness Stakes Betting News at SBG Global

Preakness Stakes betting news begins with the filly Rachel Alexandra. This horse won the Kentucky Oaks by 20 lengths and is now a probable entrant in Preakness odds.  The final decision will be made during Peakness betting week.

Preakness Stakes betting for the 134th Preakness will have a large field.  It is almost a given the field will be 10 or more and a full field of 14 is a possibility in Preakness odds.  The Preakness betting field may include Rachel Alexandra and Kentucky Derby 2nd place finisher Pioneerof the Nile. The Preakness Stakes betting field at the sportsbook will definitely include Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, Musket Man, Papa Clem, General Quarters, Flying Private, Big Drama, Take the Points, Terrain and Hull. It is also probable that Friesan Fire, who was the Kentucky Derby betting favorite, will be entered in Preakness Stakes odds.  Two other horses, Conservative and Tone It Down are also under consideration in Preakness Stakes betting.  That would make 13 for the Preakness betting field on Saturday, May 16th.

Preakness Stakes betting history will be made if Rachel Alexandra is entered.  Sports betting history tells us that no Kentucky Oaks winner has ever run in the Preakness. A total of 52 fillies have been in the Preakness Stakes betting field in the past with four of them winning. Those horses in Preakness betting were Flocarline (1903), Whimsical (1906), Rhine Maiden (1915) and Nellie Morse (1924). A filly has not even been entered in Preakness Stakes betting in 10 years.

Contenders this year in Preakness odds at the sportsbook obviously start with Rachel Alexandra who is considered far superior to any of the other horses.  Her jockey Calvin Borel has already decided he will stay with her in the Preakness and get off Mine That Bird, the Kentucky Derby winner.

Horses that could take a run at Rachel Alexandra include Big Drama who has won five of his seven lifetime starts.  It is really six of seven if you consider that he won the Swale but was placed second due to interference.
“I think a fresh horse has an advantage going into the Preakness, that’s why we’ve seen so many spoils in the Triple Crown,” said trainer David Fawkes.

Sports betting results show that Papa Clem was fourth in the Derby and could be a contender in the Preakness. “You only get one chance with the Derby, Preakness and Belmont and with my stable I don’t know if I’ll get too many more opportunities,” trainer Gary Stute said.
