Preakness Betting Could Include Bushwhacked

The 2010 Preakness betting field could include the Jonathan Sheppard trained Bushwhacked. The horse was second in the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 17th and he looks to be improving. He won’t be the favorite in Preakness odds but he could be an interesting horse to bet.

Preakness betting< will likely favor the Kentucky Derby winner but that doesn’t mean the horse will win. A horse like Bushwhacked could have a chance. The race at Keeneland was the stakes debut for Bushwhacked and he performed well. He will definitely be fresh for the Preakness. “I know there will be proven horses there, but he’s fresh and he’s improving,” Sheppard said, “I think a lot of the horses have peaked or are about to peak.” The odds for the Preakness will not have a lot of contenders since the field is much smaller than in the Kentucky Derby. Bushwhacked could easily go under the radar and he should go off a longshot odds. It has been a few years since a longshot has won the Preakness but this could be the year. The favorite gets a ton of attention, usually deserved, but this year the field doesn’t have a superstar horse as in past years.

Bushwhacked is by Posse and out of the Dynaformer mare Run In. He was purchased by George Strawbridge’s Augustin Stables for $130,000 in the 2-year-old sale last year. Sheppard is the trainer for Bushwhacked and he knows how to win stakes races. Last year he won 16 graded stakes races with only 332 total starters. He may get another winner as Rainbow View might go in the May 15th Gallorette at Pimlico on Preakness betting weekend. Another or his horses, Just As Well may run next in the Dixie, also on Preakness Day at Pimlico.

There are some great races on Preakness betting weekend. There are some great stakes races on Friday, May 14th including the Black-Eyed Susan. On Saturday, May 15th there are more stakes races with the highlight being the Preakness Stakes. If you want an interesting wager that ties the two racing days together you could play the special Daily Double that has you picking the winner of Friday’s Black-Eyed Susan and the winner of Saturday’s Preakness Stakes. That is a great way to be in action both days for the price of a single wager in Preakness odds. The favorite gets a ton of attention, usually deserved, but this year the field doesn’t have a superstar horse as in past years.
