Mine That Bird Line at SBG Global

Mine That Bird line odds two weeks ago were 50-1 in the Kentucky Derby. Funny how Mine That Bird odds have dropped since the horse won the Derby.  Now the Mine that Bird line at the online sportsbook is expected to be anywhere from 5-1 to 10-1 in the Preakness on Saturday.  Let’s look at the Mine That Bird line.

Mine That Bird odds will not have the horse favored in the Preakness but he won’t be 50-1 either.  Coming off the win in the Derby will drop his odds dramatically but horses don’t go from 50-1 one week to the favorite at the sportsbook the next week in a Triple Crown race.  The horse is not getting a lot of respect at the sportsbook which is why the Mine That Bird line will be higher than what you would normally see on a Kentucky Derby winner. Even trainers that were not considering the Preakness are now entering their horses in the race to challenge Mine That Bird line odds. “When the Kentucky Derby went the way it did we decided to take a shot,” said Barry Irwin, co-owner of Hull.

Big Drama’s trainer David Hawkes had his horse pointed to the Lone Star Derby but changed his mind. “You know, there was no outstanding horse,” Fawkes said, “I mean yeah, the winner, he was impressive, but as far as all of the favorites, you know, they all had reasons for what happened. Yeah, I would like to see (Mine That Bird win) again I think (before I believe it).”

In fact, ever since the Derby, the respect for Mine That Bird odds has continually dropped.  It is expected that a full field of 14 horses will be entered in the Preakness.  The horse that everyone fears in Preakness odds is not Mine That Bird odds, but Rachel Alexandra, the superstar filly.  She will be the favorite at the online sportsbook, while the Mine That Bird line numbers will be substantially higher in the Preakness.

Other horses that are expected to challenge Mine That Bird odds in the Preakness are Terrain, fourth in the Blue Grass Stakes, Flying Private, last in the Derby, Pioneerof the Nile, second in the Derby, Musket Man, third in the Derby, Papa Clem, fourth in the Derby, Friesan Fire who was the favorite in the Derby, General Quarters, who was 10th in the Derby and others.

Another factor that could be against Mine That Bird line odds is his jockey.  Calvin Borel has said he will get off of Mine That Bird line odds and ride Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness.
