Lookin at Lucky Preakness Stakes Odds

Preakness Stakes odds will include Kentucky Derby favorite Lookin at Lucky. The horse will likely be the second choice in Preakness Stakes betting behind Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver. Preakness Stakes odds will likely list Lookin at Lucky at single-digits.  He will not be as low as Super Saver who should go off at 5-2.  Lookin at Lucky could be in the range of 5-1 though by post time.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert was undecided on whether to bring Lookin at Lucky back for the Preakness but he made the decision to send the horse to the race unless something unexpected occurs. Lookin at Lucky was sixth in the Derby under jockey Garrett Gomez.  The horse had yet another troubled trip and Gomez will not be riding the horse in the Preakness.   Gomez will be aboard Dublin in the Preakness while it could be Martin Garcia who gets the call on Lookin at Lucky.

It should be a full field in Preakness Stakes odds on Saturday.  The weather looks good for Saturday and that should mean a different race than in the Derby. The pace should be fast again with A Little Warm, Hurricane Ice and others fighting for the early lead. Super Saver should not be far behind those horses.  Lookin at Lucky could be a threat to Super Saver in Preakness Stakes betting if he gets a good trip.  That is easier said that done for this horse.

Lookin at Lucky was excellent last year as he won five of his six races including the Best Pal, Del Mar Futurity, Norfolk (G1), and the CashCall Futurity. He was second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, but he was still the winner of the Eclipse Award for Champion 2-year-old Male. This year he won the Rebel on March 13th with a Beyer Speed figure of 98. He finished third in the Santa Anita Derby after running into trouble and getting a poor ride from Gomez.  He then had another troubled trip from the rail in the Derby and wound up sixth.

The question for those considering this horse in the Preakness Stakes is whether he can get a good trip.  Getting Gomez off the horse is probably a good thing but a full field of 14 horses is not good news for Lookin at Lucky. He just seems to find his way into trouble and that makes this horse a risky bet on Saturday.
