2010 Preakness Betting Weekend Features Ladies Race

2010 Preakness betting really kicks off on Friday, May 14th with a number of great races at Pimlico. The big race is on Saturday in Preakness Stakes odds but the entire weekend is exciting including the first ever “Lady Legends Race for the Cure” with eight retired women jockeys.

2010 Preakness betting weekend will be exciting with the second race of horse racing’s Triple Crown on Saturday.  First up though is an exciting Friday of action including the ladies race that was organized by the Maryland Jockey Club. It will benefit the Susan G. Komen For the Cure foundation, the world’s largest breast cancer organization. The race is scheduled for Friday, May 14th at Pimlico Race Course.  Also on Friday is the Black-Eyed Susan which is another great stakes race.

The ladies race as part of the weekend of Preakness Stakes odds will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first woman jockey to ride in a Triple Crown race. Riding in the race will be Barbara Jo Rubin who is now 60 years old. She was the first woman jockey to win against a man at a recognized racetrack.  Jennifer Rowland who is 57 years old will be riding in the race. She was a top female rider on the Maryland Circuit in the 1970’s.  The first African-American female jockey, Cheryl White who is 56 years old will be in the race.  PJ Cooksey is 52 years old. She is the third all-time leading female jockey with over 2000 wins.

Mary Wiley Wagner was an apprentice jockey in 1987 she is a breast cancer survivor.  Andrea Seefeldt rode in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness in the past.  Gwen Jocson is the record holder for the most wins in a single year by a woman. Mary Russ Tortora, was the first woman to win a Grade 1 stakes race. Diane Crump was the first female to ride in a Triple Crown race. She finished 15th aboard Fathom in the Kentucky Derby in 1970. Julie Krone was the first woman to win a Triple Crown race in 1993 as she won the Belmont aboard Colonial Affair.

This race features all jockeys who are retired but it still should be interesting on 2010 Preakness betting weekend.  Pimlico needs all the help they can get to market horse racing in Baltimore and an all-ladies race definitely should get some attention.
