Making an online wager on the Denver Broncos in 2010 should be interesting, especially with the team having a potential quarterback battle between Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn. The Broncos were very good last year early in the season before collapsing in online wagering late in the year.
Online wager success on the Broncos might be more difficult this season if the team does not have wide receiver Brandon Marshall. The Broncos were not that great on offense anyway, so if they lose Marshall they could really struggle. Last season it was Kyle Orton at quarterback for the Broncos and he goes into this season as the starter even though Brady Quinn will be in the mix. “He’s a guy who made the most of an opportunity he was given last year,” McDaniels said about Orton, “Kyle started all but one game for us last year, and he’s got the respect of his teammates and coaches and we look forward to him improving. Now Brady’s here competing, and as always, players determine their roles by what they do on the field.”
The Broncos are not the favorite in online wagering in the AFC West. That honor goes to the San Diego Chargers. Denver proved last season though that they can play with San Diego. They are not that far away from being a team that can make the playoffs. McDaniels expects to start the season with Orton at quarterback but he stated that the competition is always open. “There are guys that are definitely starters, and until someone comes in to knock them off their spot, it’s going to be that way,” McDaniels said to a local paper, “Brady’s a player who fits a lot of the qualities and characteristics we look for in our quarterbacks. We feel like we have three who are in that same boat. It made sense for us to try to improve the competition at that position just like it does when we try to improve our competition at any position.”
Denver was 8-8 last season and they were 9-7 against the spread for those making an online wager. The team was just 15th in total yards last season so that is a concern heading into 2010, especially if Brandon Marshall does not return. The defense was solid though as they were 12th in the league.
