Revis Holdout Could Hurt Jets in Online Wagering Odds

December 7th, 2021 Online Wagering

The New York Jets are 9-1 in online wagering Super Bowl future odds but if their All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis doesn’t return, those odds could change. The Jets are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season at online wagering companies but losing Revis would be a huge blow.

Online wagering odds list the Jets right with the New England Patriots as favorites in the AFC East this season.  The Jets had a superb defense a year ago and Revis was a big reason why.  He is considered the best cornerback in the NFL and he negates the top wide receiver of opposing teams.  Revis is unhappy with his current contract and has decided to holdout.  Revis is not taking this lightly either as he has said he will hold out as long as it takes.

The Jets will fine Revis $16,000 a day as he holds out.  Revis also gives up a guaranteed $20 million in salaries for 2011 and 2012. Neil Schwartz, who is the agent for Revis, said that the decision to hold out was made after a lot of thought by Revis and his family.  Schwartz has said that Revis is not coming back to the Jets without a new deal.

The loss of Revis cannot be overstated at online wagering companies.  He led the NFL in seven categories last season and is the one player that the Jets simply can’t afford to lose.  He makes their defense so much better.  The Jets made a lot of off-season moves but without Revis, many of them will not be as good.   They added LaDainian Tomlinson Santonio Holmes Antonio Cromartie and Jason Taylor. Cromartie was expected to team with Revis this season.  The Jets did take Kyle Wilson with their first pick in the draft but he is not going to replace Revis. The secondary with Revis is great. Without him they are just average. And average is not good enough to win a Super Bowl.

The Jets can’t afford to be without Revis to start the season because they have a very tough opener against a Baltimore team that added Anquan Boldin in the off-season. They then host the New England Patriots in Week 2 and go to Miami in Week 3.  The Jets will need Revis to handle Boldin, Randy Moss and Brandon Marshall. If they don’t have Revis the Jets could have serious problems vs. online wagering odds in all three of those games.
