The NFL is full of contradictions and surprises and as online wagering fan can tell you this league as just about as unpredictable as any in sports. And so after the conclusion of the Week 7 action in the NFL, it seems quite strange –but accurate- to say that the New York Giants just might be the best team in the NFC. After getting off to a 1-2 in which the team looked awful, QB Eli Manning threw 6 INTs and nothing seemed to be working on either side the of the ball, the Giants have now rattled off 4 wins in a row –the longest such streak in NFL online wagering at the moment- and at 5-2 has the best record in the NFC and is the most complete league in the conference, if not the NFL.
The only other team in the NFC that’s comparable is the Atlanta Falcons (5-2) and that’s a team with plenty of flaws. In a head to head competition right now between these two 5-2 teams the smart online wager would definitely be on the Giants.
What makes the Giants so dangerous right now is that this team really has very few, if any, weaknesses? It’s as well-rounded a team as there is in the NFL and in a watered down NFC in which the Chicago Bears (4-3), Seattle Seahawks (4-2) and the Falcons are leading their respective divisions, it doesn’t have a lot of competition in its path to the Super Bowl
On defense this team’s pass rush is the best in the business (24 sacks) and it not only sacks opposing QBs, it knocks them out of action (see Jay Cutler, Tony Romo, Shaun Hill, etc).
On offense this team has the NFL’s leading rusher in Ahmad Bradshaw (708 yards in 7 games) and has arguably the best trio of receivers in the league right now in Hakeem Knicks, Steve Smith and Mario Manningham.
True, this team gives up a heap of points (21.9), turns the ball over (5 TOs vs. Dallas in Week 7) and Manning can be a INT machine at times (11 INTs, worst in the NFL) this team is still the best in the NFC.
So if you’re looking to chart an online wagering course the Super Bowl it will be impossible not to include New York in your calculations.
