Avoid Golf’s Major Winners in Offshore Wagering

December 13th, 2021 Online Wagering

When you look at offshore wagering odds on golf you might want to avoid taking the winners of recent major tournaments. The last two major winners, Graeme McDowell and Louis Oosthuizen have struggled since winning the U.S. Open and British Open respectively.  The odds on each player at online wagering companies are long as neither player gets much respect.

McDowell has struggled big time after winning the U.S. Open.  He was playing better in the Bridgestone Invitational this weekend but it has been a couple of months since he won the British Open so perhaps he can put that win behind him.  The same thing is happening to British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen.  He has struggled recently and was over par after the first round of the Bridgestone on Thursday.

For Oosthuizen and McDowell, winning a big tournament was a life changing experience.  Until the Bridgestone, McDowell had not finished better than a tie for 45th after winning the U.S. Open.   McDowell said he has struggled to remain focused. He said that the four weeks after winning the U.S. Open were the toughest weeks he has ever had as a player.

Winning a major tournament is not a surprise to players like Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson but McDowell and Oosthuizen have not had much success on the big stage.  McDowell does have five European Tour titles on his resume but he has really done nothing in the United States.  Oosthuizen was even more unknown to golf fans.  He has only won once on the European Tour.

Both players will be long shots when the PGA Championship begins next week.  They might have a better chance of winning though than the favorite, Tiger Woods. He has been a favorite among bettors and odds makers for many years at online wagering companies but this year he has been a money burner as he has not won a tournament this season and rarely has he been in contention.  He is still the favorite though in next week’s PGA Championship while McDowell and Oosthuizen are long shots.

The PGA Championship gets underway on Thursday, August 12th and concludes on Sunday, August 15th. It is the last major of the season and that means it will attract some attention from golf bettors around the world.
