The Ryder Cup is just around the corner with odds on the board at Internet gambling companies and the European team is set. European Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie made his three captains picks on Sunday which rounds out the European roster. Europe is favored in online gambling at SBG to win the Ryder Cup over the United States.
Internet gambling companies list Europe as a -170 favorite in the Ryder Cup. The European team is different than it was a couple of years ago and some of the names you may not recognize.
Molinari Brothers – For the first time in Ryder Cup history there will be two brothers on a team. Edoardo Molinari was one of Montgomerie’s three picks on Sunday and he joins his brother Francesco. Although you might not know much about the Molinari brothers, they are very good players. Edoardo won the European PGA Tour’s Johnnie Walker Championship on Sunday. His brother Francesco was an automatic qualifier for the team.
Monty’s picks – Montgomerie picked Edoardo, Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald to join the automatic qualifiers. Harrington has the experience but he has never had much success in the Ryder Cup. Donald is ranked #10 in the world and he played extremely well for a while on Sunday at The Barclays.
Europe Team – There were nine players who automatically qualified for the Ryder Cup. They are Lee Westwood, U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell, PGA champion Martin Kaymer, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Francesco Molinari, Peter Hanson, Rory McIlroy and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
U.S. Team – The United States team will have Phil Mickelson, Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Jeff Overton and Matt Kuchar who won The Barclays on Sunday. Those players have automatically qualified for the U.S. team. World #1 Tiger Woods finished tied for 12th in The Barclays and Captain Corey Pavin will probably add Tiger with one of his captain’s picks. Other players in consideration include Anthony Kim, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson and Stewart Cink.
Ryder Cup Schedule: The Ryder Cup will begin on Friday, October 1st so you have plenty of time to get your online gambling wagers in. There are three days of Ryder Cup competition with fourball and foursome action on Friday and Saturday and singles on Sunday.
