The Dallas Cowboys have been the worst team in the NFL this season against the odds at Internet gambling companies. Much of the blame for the Cowboys lack of success this season falls on the head of head coach Wade Phillips. Well, it used to. Owner Jerry Jones fired Phillips on Monday after the Cowboys disgraced themselves in an online gambling blowout loss to Green Bay on Sunday night.
Cowboys 1-7 SU & ATS
The Cowboys have just a single win this season straight up and against the spread. The Buffalo Bills are winless at 0-8 but at least they are 3-4-1 against the spread at the Sbg sportsbook. Dallas has been so bad the past two weeks against Jacksonville and Green Bay that something had to be done. Owner Jerry Jones finally did something that should have been done long ago and fired Phillips. The Cowboys were 35-23 under Phillips tenure but they were a disaster this season with only one win in eight games.
Jason Garrett the Interim Coach
The Cowboys will be going with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett as the interim coach. Garrett was thought to be the coach in waiting for the Cowboys but his offense has been so rotten this season that his job is not secure.
Wakeup Call?
The question for bettors at Internet gambling companies to answer is whether this wakes up the Cowboys. They definitely can’t be any worse than they were the last two weeks. The team simply quit against Jacksonville and Green Bay. Some of the players believe that the change to Jason Garrett as head coach will provide a spark to the team. The Cowboys were fine under Phillips for a while as he provided a relaxed atmosphere compared to what the team had under previous coach Bill Parcells. That type of approach works fine when things are going well but when things don’t go well it doesn’t work. When adversity strikes a team they need a strong leader and Phillips is not that. Whether Garrett is a leader remains to be seen. He gets a really tough first game as the Cowboys are at the Giants. Dallas is a 14-point underdog in online gambling odds in their game at New York.
