Federer and Serena Favored in Wimbledon Online Betting

Roger Federer and Serena Williams are not only the top seeds at Wimbledon; they are also the online betting favorites. Federer is +125 on the men’s side while Serena is +175 in Internet betting on the women’s side. Online betting odds are close on the men’s side with Federer just barely favored over Rafael Nadal.  Federer is the number one seed for Wimbledon even though Nadal is ranked number one in the world.  Wimbledon doesn’t have to follow the world rankings and oftentimes they do not.  Federer is the defending champion and he has won Wimbledon six times so he is a deserving favorite.

Federer has won a record 16 Grand Slam titles including the Australian Open this year. He has not won a tournament though since that getting that victory. Federer won Wimbledon last year while Nadal upset him in 2008. Nadal won the French Open but he has never been as strong on grass as he is on clay.  He lost last week to Feliciano Lopez in a Wimbledon warmup tournament.  The number three seed on the men’s side is Novak Djokovic while Andy Murray is seeded fourth.  Andy Roddick is the fifth seed while Robin Soderling is sixth. The tennis betting odds don’t agree with the seedings after the top two though as Murray and Roddick are the co-third choices in the betting while Djokovic is a distant sixth.  The one longshot getting some action on the odds board is Lleyton Hewitt as he is 22-1.

Serena Williams is the solid favorite on the women’s side with her sister Venus the second choice in Internet betting.  Caroline Wozniacki is the third seed on the women’s side followed by Jelena Jankovic at number four and French Open champion Francesca Schiavone at number five.  Elena Dementieva probably would have been seeded fifth but she withdrew due to injury.  Kim Clijsters is seeded eighth while Justine Henin is seeded 17th.  Clijsters and Henin are the co-third choices in the betting odds along with Maria Sharapova.  Wozniacki and Jankovic are not given much respect as they are both listed with odds of more than 20-1.  Samantha Stosur is getting more action than both of them as she is 12-1.  Two other women that are attracting some attention are Na Li at 25-1 and Nadia Petrova at 35-1.
