The Detroit Pistons rolled the dice on Tuesday and signed Tracy McGrady and he could help them next season vs. NBA odds at the online bookmaker. The Pistons are not taking much of a risk since they only signed McGrady to a one-year deal worth $1.35 million. McGrady was one of the best players in the NBA a few years ago and impacted offshore betting odds on a regular basis.
Online bookmaker odds on the Pistons could get a boost if McGrady regains his top form. He played in just 30 games last season for the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks. McGrady had major knee surgery during the 2008-2009 seasons and has not been the same since. He is a seven-time All-Star and two-time scoring champ but many people believe his best days are behind him. The Pistons were willing to take a chance though that McGrady still has something left.
Detroit will have to find playing time since McGrady would be slated to play behind Richard Hamilton and Tayshawn Prince. There are rumors that the Pistons will move one of those two players before the season begins.
If Detroit can get McGrady to play up to his form of a few years ago the signing would be a major coup. McGrady was superb with the Orlando Magic back in 2003 and 2004 as he led the league in scoring. He was also very good for Houston but after his injury he simply didn’t have the same skills. The Pistons believe that McGrady is healthy now and can make a difference with them this season.
Detroit was 27-55 straight up last season and 34-46-2 against the NBA odds so they need all the help they can get. The Pistons finished in last place in the Central Division. Hamilton led the team in scoring last season but at just over 18 points per game. McGrady was capable of putting up that many points on a bad night. The Pistons were one of the worst teams in the league on offense at 94 points per game so the addition of McGrady makes sense. If he can get anywhere near to his All-Star form he can be a big help to Detroit this season.
