United Leads Arsenal by 7 Points
Manchester United is in good shape to win their record 19th Premier League title. They are seven points clear of second place Arsenal although the Gunners do have a game in hand. United was able to beat Fulham 2-0 on Saturday even though it was not a great effort. Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia scored the two goals. United is now in solid position to win the Premier League and they are also looking to win the Champions League and they hold a 1-0 lead over Chelsea heading into Tuesday’s second leg. Chelsea is now in third place in the Premier League after a 1-0 win over Wigan.
Barcelona Leads Madrid by 8 Points
Lionel Messi scored twice as Barcelona beat Almeria in Spanish league play. The two goals by Messi give him a career-best 47 on the season. Barcelona leads second place Real Madrid by eight points. The win by Barcelona was not an easy one over Almeria as they had to come from behind to win. Almeria scored in the 50th minute when Miguel Garcia got a goal but just three minutes later Messi tied it on a penalty kick. Messi then assisted on Thiago Alcantara’s goal in the 64th minute and Messi got his 29th league goal in injury time. Messi has 47 goals in all competitions this season. Barcelona will try and put the league title away next week when they visit Real Madrid. The two teams will then meet again in the Copa Del Rey final. The teams are also likely to meet two more times in the Champions League semifinals.
