The Florida Panthers are coming off the first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history. Florida escaped a catastrophe by winning Game 7 against the Edmonton Oilers after blowing a 3-0 series lead. Naturally, the Panthers are the NHL betting odds future market favorite to win the 2025 Stanley Cup championship. Certainly, the Panthers have the depth, grit, skill, and goaltending to repeat as the Stanley Cup champion. But the Stanley Cup is the most brutally tough trophy in sports to win. And there are a host of teams who can hoist it next June.

When it mattered most, and disaster was confronted, the Panthers delivered a courageous Game 7 win over Edmonton. Head coach Paul Maurice has proven to be an offshore bookmaker asset. Maurice took over a talented but undisciplined team two years ago. Correlate that his ability to get the Panthers to commit defensively proved to be the difference.
Starting with C Carter Verhaeghe, Florida has a loaded lineup. Verhaeghe led the Cats in the playoffs with 11 goals, ten assists, and 21 points. Other key playoff contributors were C Alexsander Barkov (eight goals, 14 assists, 22 points) and LW Tkachuk (six goals, 16 assists, 22 points). G Sergei Bobrovsky could have won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. To show, Bob had a 2.32 goals against average, a .906 save percentage, a 16-8 record, with two shutouts.

An interesting second choice for gamblers is the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina has always shown good balance, but its playoff goaltending was abysmal. The big question is if they can improve between the pipes. On the other hand, the Hurricanes have good secondary scoring. But Carolina needs Sebastian Aho to emerge as a serious finisher.

Meanwhile, the defending Western Conference champion Oilers remain in the NHL betting conversation for 2025. Edmonton boasts the best player in the NHL, Connor McDavid. McDavid led the Oilers in playoff scoring with eight goals, 34 assists, 42 points, and a +12. McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
Equally important to Edmonton is C Leon Draisaitl. In the postseason, Draisaitl scored ten goals, 21 assists, and 31 points. Also, D Evan Bouchard added six goals, 26 assists, 32 points, and a +14.
Vegas Golden Knights +1100
No NHL franchise is more aggressive about staying in the Stanley Cup hunt than the Vegas Golden Knights. The 2023 Stanley Cup champions will be eager to return to championship glory.
Vegas was ousted in the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Dallas Stars. But with C Jack Eichel, D Noah Hanifin, and the goaltending of Adin Hill and Logan Thompson, the VGK will be dangerous. Last year, the Golden Knights had a Stanley Cup hangover. That will not be a factor in 2024-25.
