Knights Look to Keep Jets Grounded in the Stanley Cup Playoff Odds

Winnipeg scored a devastating game one win over Vegas.  The Jets appeared to have too much for the Golden Knights.  The 4-2 win was so decisive that it foretold of a short series.  Or so it seemed.  Yet lost in the noise was a distinct factor.  Vegas has proven to be the most resilient team in the NHL.  Yes, the first-year expansion team is no accident.  Instead they are a bona fide Stanley Cup Playoff odds contender.  Vegas did not whither after that game one loss.  Instead they scored a commanding 3-1 game two win.

The Series so Far

Games three and four of this series are at the T-Mobile Arena.  Sin City will pack the house.  The noise level and crowd intensity will match Winnipeg’s.  Home ice should help Vegas with the Stanley Cup Playoff odds.  But the Jets just came off a successful series against Nashville.  The Predators have a similar home ice advantage.  Yet Winnipeg won three games there in that second-round matchup.  Thus, the Jets will not be rattled at T-Mobile.

Golden Knights

After a slow start in game one the Golden Knights jumped out quickly on Monday night. They left the ice ahead 2-0 after the fist period.  Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury stopped 30 of 31 shots backstopping Vegas.  Fleury has been the face of the franchise.  He took center stage the night of the expansion draft.  Fans gave a standing ovation.  A bond was immediately set.  Owner Bill Foley expects him to stay after his playing career ends.  Once again when it matters most Fleury prevailed.

Important Names on the Ice

Center Jonathan Marchessault had a big first period goal for Vegas.  He is one of the many castoffs on the team.  In the playoffs Marchessault has six goals and nine assists with a plus 10.  Fellow center William Karlsson has also been strong for Vegas.  He has five goals, seven assists and a plus nine in post season.  Right wing Reilly Smith has a whopping 13 assists in playoff action.  And Fleury has a stellar .945 save percentage with four shutouts.  His goals against average is 1.68.

Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg center Mark Scheifele has emerged as a sportsbook star this post season.  Scheifele has 12 goals, six assists and a plus six.  Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien may give the Jets a blue line edge.  He has been one of the best defensemen in the playoffs.  As captain he brings strong leadership as well.  “Big Buff” has five goals and 10 assists with a plus five.  Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has a post season save percentage of .924 with two shutouts.

Matchup to Watch

A lot of folks have lost a lot of money betting against Vegas.  They are a legitimate choice with the Stanley Cup Playoff odds.  Home ice and Fleury give them the matchup edge.
