Bruins Host Blues in Game 2 NHL Betting Odds Wednesday

2019 Stanley Cup Final Game 2 St. Louis Blues vs. Boston Bruins

At the onset of the Stanley Cup Final were worries about the Boston Bruins long layoff.  Boston had gone 11 days between games.  While their Eastern Conference Final sweep was impressive it also meant for an old debate.  Would those 11 days off bring rest or rust?  That NHL betting online question was answered in game one on Monday.  St. Louis did jump out to a 2-0 first period lead.  And Boston did seem to show rust early. But the last half of the game was utter domination by the Bruins.  It was a stark reality check for St. Louis.

2019 Stanley Cup Final Update

Boston was victorious in game one 4-2.  Now the Bruins lead this best of seven series 1-0.  Games three and four will take place at St. Louis.  Concurrently, game three is set for Saturday with game four Monday.  Both games have scheduled starting times of 8 p.m. ET.

Self-Inflicted Wounds

Early in the game the Blues impressed.  Goaltender Jordan Binnington was strong under pressure.  However midway through the second period St. Louis began to break down. Joel Edmondson and Oskar Sundqvist took poor unnecessary penalties.  Indeed, Sundqvist’s was particularly costly as it resulted in a game tying goal by Charlie McAvoy.  That proved to change the momentum of the game.  Boston outshout St. Louis 18-3 in the second period.  Additionally, the Bruins had a 12-9 advantage in the third. Overall the Bruins held a 38-20 shots on goal advantage.  As the game progressed Boston became a steamroller.

Binnington Stands Strong

Namely Blues rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington demonstrated why he is an NHL betting online asset.  Binnington stopped 34 out of 37 shots and stood up to the Boston barrage throughout the evening.  He kept the St. Louis in the game.  That is a promising sign for the rest of the series.  On the whole Stanley Cup pressure did not break the rookie.

Cassidy Adjusts

Likewise, another factor for the Bruins was the coaching of Bruce Cassidy.  After a poor first period Cassidy made adjustments that unleashed the Bruins to the attack.  Simultaneously the Bruins depth was an offshore betting asset that Cassidy took full advantage of.  St. Louis coach Craig Berube was definitely schooled.  Specifically, he did not adjust fast enough to Cassidy’s changes.

Opportunity Beckons

While the Bruins were dominant in game one that may not matter on Wednesday.  St. Louis can take the series home with a split and gain home ice advantage.  The big question is if Boston’s dominance was a half-game anomaly.  Or a portent of things to come.

Matchup to Watch

In this situation St. Louis should bring NHL Betting online value.  Public money was already flowing on Boston before the dominant win.  Consider the Blues are 3-2 after a playoff loss.  Additionally, they are 7-3 on road in post season this year.  Boston’s price tag will only grow with gamblers.
