2025-26 NHL Futures Odds – Wild Card Logjams!

As the 2025-26 NHL Odds season winds down with just under two weeks remaining until the April 16 conclusion, the playoff race has reached a fever pitch. However, the picture is starting to clarify somewhat, with a handful of teams securing their spots while others battle fiercely for the final berths. Only four teams have officially clinched playoff qualification. So far, they are the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, and Minnesota Wild in the West, and the Carolina Hurricanes in the East.

In the Eastern Conference, the Atlantic Division features a tight tussle at the top between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres, with Tampa holding a slight edge in games played and regulation wins. While the Montreal Canadiens have surged with a hot streak to stay in the mix.

The Metropolitan Division is led convincingly by the Hurricanes, who have locked up their postseason ticket with strong defensive structure and goaltending depth. Following Carolina are the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Islanders, holding the division’s other automatic spots, but the Islanders look vulnerable.

Meanwhile, the wild-card race in the East remains one of the most compelling storylines. The Boston Bruins are currently occupying the top wild-card position. But a cluster of teams, including the Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, and potentially others like the Columbus Blue Jackets or Philadelphia Flyers, is hovering around.

Hence, teams are creating scenarios in which a single regulation loss or win could dramatically flip seeding. Tiebreakers involving regulation wins and head-to-head results will likely decide the final Eastern wild-card slot, and with several teams having eight or fewer games left, every matchup carries massive weight.

2025-26 Stanley Cup Championship Futures

Projected first-round scenarios in the East, if the online betting standings hold, could see the Lightning or Sabres facing the Bruins in a rematch-heavy Atlantic-side series. At the same time, the Hurricanes might draw a wild-card opponent, such as the Senators or Islanders, in the Metro bracket. Thus, setting up potential high-scoring or defensively gritty clashes, depending on which bubble teams advance. The Sabres’ NHL betting resurgence has been particularly noteworthy after years of missing the postseason. Buffalo is giving their fanbase renewed hope for a deep run if it can secure home-ice advantage or at least avoid early travel fatigue.

In comparison, the Colorado Avalanche stand tall as the clear Western Conference frontrunners with over 110 points, boasting elite scoring from stars like Nathan MacKinnon and a balanced roster that has them as strong Stanley Cup contenders once again. The Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild have also punched their tickets, providing stability in the Central Division alongside Colorado.

In the Pacific, the Edmonton Oilers, under Connor McDavid, have edged ahead or tied the Anaheim Ducks for the top spot. While the Vegas Golden Knights have stabilized under new coaching, they hold third. The Western wild-card battle features the Utah Mammoth or similar emerging teams in one spot, with potential challengers like the Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings. Also, there are late surges from the San Jose Sharks or others, tightening the gap through recent results.

If the bracket were set today, Western first-round possibilities might include the Avalanche taking on a wild-card foe like the Kings or Predators. Meanwhile, the Stars would face Minnesota in a divisional rematch. And then Pacific teams like Edmonton or Anaheim facing Vegas in what could be an entertaining, skill-driven series.

To conclude, the West overall projects a bit more separation among the top seeds compared to the chaotic East wild-card scrum. But the remaining schedule includes key head-to-head games and Statement Saturday-style slates packed with 15 contests that could reshape everything overnight.
