Winless Cowboys NFL Betting Dogs at Houston in Preseason Finale

Dallas Cowboys vs. Houston Texans NFL Betting Preview - August 30th

Extending the reputation of preseason being meaningless are the Cowboys.  Indeed, Dallas has been one of the worst looking teams this exhibition season.  For example, the Cowboys have lost all three of their preseason matchups straight up.  And have just one NFL betting payout so far.  In the same way their worst performance was last week in a loss to Arizona.  Balanced against that is Houston’s 2-1 straight up mark.  Although this may be true they have gotten the money just once as well.  The Texans host the Cowboys in the preseason finale on Thursday night.

Houston Texans

Houston is coming off a 21-20 loss at the LA Rams as three-point chalks.  Contrarily the Texans won their first two preseason games.  In their preseason opener they scored a 17-10 NFL betting payout at Kansas City.  Afterward Houston scored a 16-13 home win and push against San Francisco.  Brandon Weeden saw most of the action at quarterback last week.  In turn Weeden was 10-17 passing for 108 yards with a touchdown and interception.  Joe Webb was more impressive under center.  To show Webb was 7-10 for 93 yards with a touchdown.

Dallas Cowboys

On the whole Dallas has simply been dreadful so far in preseason.  Concurrently last week was emblematic of their summer.  To exemplify visiting Arizona smoked Dallas 27-3.  However, it must be emphasized that Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott did not play.  Mike White and Cooper Rush combined to throw three interceptions in the loss.  Additionally, they were sacked a total of five times in the loss.  Supplementing the Dallas misery were eight turnovers and 11 penalties.  Paying fans should have gotten a refund.

Numbers to Consider

Initially in their preseason opener the Cowboys lost at San Francisco 24-21 but covered as 3.5-point dogs.  By contrast they failed to pay in a 21-13 home loss to Cincinnati after that.  The Cowboys rank a dismal 27th in the NFL preseason for total offense.

Team Stats Difference

Dallas has struggled as a preseason sportsbook online road dog.  To be exact the Cowboys have failed to cover eight of their last 12 in that role.  Just two of their last six as exhibition road dogs have gone under the total.  Conversely Houston has been a solid preseason home chalk.  Overall the Texans have lost just three of their last 11 exhibitions in that role.  Five of their last six as exhibition home favorites have gone under the total.

Team vs Team

Houston has come away with the money in five of their last six preseason matchups with Dallas.  Additionally, three of the last four in this exhibition series have gone under the total.  Further, the Texans have covered three straight home preseason games against the Cowboys.  Two of those three tilts also went under the total.

Matchup to Watch

As mentioned earlier Dallas has been a poor preseason NFL betting value.  Equally important is Houston’s head to head dominance of this exhibition series.
