Week 5 NFL Odds Recap

It was another week for underdogs against the NFL odds.  Week 5 was dominated by teams getting points.  The underdogs went a sizzling 9-4 against the NFL odds heading into Monday night’s game.

There are no unbeaten teams left in the NFL after five weeks as Kansas City lost at Indianapolis. That game was one of the few where the underdog did not cover the spread. The Chiefs were in great shape in that game vs. the number until late in the fourth quarter.  The Colts outscored the Chiefs 10-0 and the fourth quarter and won by 10 points to cover the spread.

Packers and Saints Lose – Two of the most popular picks this week were the Packers at Washington and New Orleans in Arizona. Not only did Green Bay and New Orleans fail to cover the spread, they both lost outright.  It seemed every bettor took the Saints and they never really were in position to cover against Arizona and ended up losing the game. Other underdogs to cover early on Sunday were Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Chicago and the New York Giants. The Jaguars outscored the Bills, Tampa came back to beat Cincinnati late, the Bears dominated Carolina while New York pummeled Houston.

Ravens, Lions, Falcons Cover – The other three favorites that covered along with the Colts in NFL betting odds were Baltimore, Detroit and Atlanta.  The Ravens and Lions were in control of their games throughout while the Falcons were fortunate to cover vs. Cleveland. Jake Delhomme came into the game for Cleveland after Seneca Wallace got hurt and simply threw the game and the cover away for the Browns.  He threw two interceptions that cost Cleveland the game.

Late Game Underdogs – Bettors that thought things would turn around in the late games were disappointed.  San Diego was favored at Oakland and found a way to lose another game they should have won.  Dallas was a very popular pick at home vs. Tennessee but Wade Phillips proved once again he doesn’t have his team ready to play and the Cowboys handed the game to the Titans.  We mentioned the Saints losing at Arizona already.   The Sunday night game had San Francisco hosting Philadelphia and although the 49ers made it interesting, they couldn’t get past the Eagles, losing 27-24 as three point favorites in NFL odds at the Sbg sportsbook.
