Washington Redskins at Atlanta NFL Betting

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL betting favors the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday as they host the Washington Redskins.

Not much as gone right for the Redskins this season and they are not a popular football betting choice in this game.

NFL betting has seen the Redskins go 2-5 straight up and an even worse 1-5-1 against the football betting odds. The Redskins have a lame duck coach in Jim Zorn, one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL in Jason Campbell but they do have a defense that is in the Top 5 in the league.  Unless they can create turnovers though it is unlikely they can stay with a potent Atlanta offense in this NFL betting matchup.  It doesn’t help Washington that they are without tight end Chris Cooley.  The Redskins really need their defense to start taking the ball away.  “We need to start making plays on defense,” cornerback Carlos Rogers said.

For the Redskins to cover this game in football betting they are going to need a big game from Clinton Portis, some takeaways from the defense and some great special teams play.  The problem for Washington in this NFL betting contest is that they are not getting much out of the special teams. The longest punt return this season is 15 yards and the Redskins only have 72 yards on punt returns all season.

One positive for the Redskins in NFL betting is that they have won three of the last five games against Atlanta. The problem is that these two teams don’t meet a lot in NFL betting and the Redskins last beat Atlanta in 2003.  The two teams played in 2006 and the Falcons won at Washington by a score of 24-14 in football betting.

Atlanta has been very good in NFL betting at home this season going 3-0. Many people that are betting this game are looking at laying the points with the Falcons.  Atlanta has a potent offense with quarterback Matt Ryan. They should be able to put up points in this game against Washington.  The Falcons have the talented Roddy White at receiver and Michael Turner running the ball. The problem for Atlanta has been their defense but Washington really doesn’t have the offensive weapons to cause Atlanta that much difficult. The Falcons are laying big points but they have the talent to cover this football betting number on Sunday.
