Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tennessee Titans

Titans Host Steelers in NBC Sunday Night NFL Betting Matchup

August 21st, 2019 NFL Football, Sports Betting

Commencing with preseason are the Steelers and Titans both facing pressure for 2019.  Neither team made the playoffs in 2018 after doing so the season prior.  In each case, their respective offenses proved to be NFL betting liabilities.  Additionally, Pittsburgh and Tennessee are facing fan bases that are beyond out of patience.  Head coach Mike Tomlin of the Steelers has outlasted his welcome in the eyes of many.  In the same way, Titans coach Mike Vrabel flopped after taking over a playoff team from Mike Mularkey.  Vrabel was wrongly seen as the man that could jumpstart the Tennessee offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers Current Form

On the whole its been a good preseason start for the Steelers.  Pittsburgh has an NFL betting record of 2-0 straight up, 1-0-1 vs. the line, and 1-1 with totals.  In their preseason opener, the Steelers got a 30-28 push home win over Tampa Bay.  Second-week action saw Pittsburgh pay 17-7 at home against Kansas City.  NFL preseason metrics rank the Steelers 10th for scoring offense and 13th for points allowed.  Extending the preseason goals for Tomlin and the Steelers is killing the negativity from 2018.  LeVeon Bell’s departure after season-long holdout has helped.

Tennessee Titans Current Form

By contrast, the Titans have a sports betting record of 1-1 both straight up and with the odds with 0-1-1 under the total.  Tennessee opened the preseason with a 27-10 win at Philadelphia.  Following that was a 22-17 home loss to the Patriots.  So far, the Titans rank 10th in the NFL for the total offense as well as for total defense.  Tennessee and Vrabel took serious credibility hit with their flop last year.  As a result, preseason is seen as a great opportunity for a reset.  Tennessee is seen as a team with good potential upside.

Who to Watch

Namely, Ryan Tannehill has been outstanding in the preseason for Tennessee.  Tannehill leads the Titans with a 130.8 QB rating and a 3/0 touchdown to interception ratio.  Logan Woodside has a 97.1 QB rating for Tennessee.  And Marcus Mariota is at 92.0.  Compared to that is Joshua Dobbs’ lackluster 67.9 QB rating for the Steelers.  Mason Rudolph is at 115.9 with Devin Hodges at 112.5.  So far Ben Roethlisberger has sat out the preseason.
