Overall, the Los Angeles Chargers were relatively quiet during the 2025 NFL offseason. Especially for a team with a lot of cap space. Outside of signing Mekhi Becton late in free agency’s opening window. Although the Najee Harris signing initially looked promising, it ultimately felt somewhat redundant. Consider that it was after the team drafted Omarion Hampton in the first round. The fundamental quality of football, particularly physicality, was significantly improved. Now comes the 2025 season, and higher expectations and greater scrutiny from the gambling public.

Since losing the divisional round in 2009, the Los Angeles Chargers have made the playoffs only four times. However, one of those sports betting postseason berths was last year, which was the first for head coach Jim Harbaugh. In his successful debut season, Harbaugh produced 56 more points on offense and 97 fewer points defensively.
The Chargers outperformed their 2025 NFL futures talent level on the roster in the 2025 season. Accordingly, LA made it to the playoffs, where they promptly played to the level of their talent and were quickly eliminated. To show, when Jim Harbaugh coaches them, gamblers put strong money on his teams maximizing their regular-season performance in just about any given season.
Consider that with Harbaugh’s general philosophy, it was surprising to see them invest in offensive skill players with their first two draft picks. Hence, they emerged from the draft still having question marks on the interior of the offensive and defensive lines. This is a team that improved. However, given the resources available, it probably could have achieved even more.
Los Angeles Team History
The Chargers played in the first two AFL championship games, losing both. Finally, they won the 1963 AFL championship. After losing the AFL championship game in the next two years, the Chargers went into a long period of darkness.
But head coach Don Coryell and quarterback Dan Fouts led a franchise resurgence in the early 1980s. Following that was another long period of losing. The Chargers made their only Super Bowl appearance in the 1995 season, losing to the 49ers.
Correlate that from 2004 to 2018, the Chargers qualified for the playoffs seven times. For most of those years, the quarterback was Philip Rivers, who could never get the Chargers to the Super Bowl. Finally, after years of futility in trying to build a new stadium, the Chargers returned to LA from San Diego in 2017.
