Busy Off Season

In comparison to previous off seasons Houston was extremely busy.  To exemplify new general manager Brian Gaine signed nine free agents.  And added eight new draft picks.  Meanwhile O’Brien received a four-year contract extension.  Owner Bob McNair’s vote of confidence was based on knowing last year’s setback was injury based.  And that he expects the Texans Bet on NFL fortunes to change.  Further Gaine and O’Brien became close years ago.  This is Gaine’s second stint at Houston.  Most of all his return has brought much needed front office harmony.

Whitney Mercilus

Of course, Mercilus may be the Texans most underrated player.  In particular he can both rush and cover equally well.  In addition, cornerback Aaron Colvin and Safety Tyrann Mathieu are top free agent arrivals.

Matchup to Watch

Since all key players return Houston has high Bet on NFL expectations.  Though a better season is expected the first two games are tough.  Specifically, at New England and at Tennessee won’t be easy.  Even so the Texans should again be a playoff contender this year.
