In Payton’s first online betting season in Denver, he quickly realized that Wilson was a bad fit and charted a new course. Accordingly, Payton took Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL Draft as the quarterback of the future. In turn, Nix’s future was now. Nix and Payton teamed to go 10-7 and produced a playoff berth. It was the first playoff berth for Denver since Peyton Manning went out as a Super Bowl champion in the 2015 season.
It helps that the Broncos didn’t lose many important contributors this 2025 NFL futures offseason. Javonte Williams was not making a significant contribution to the offense anyway. Hence, the Broncos could have replaced him with any number of backs in an excellent class. They did just that while also landing arguably the top corner in the draft.
Evan Engram leaves something to be desired in terms of efficiency. But he should be a reliable underneath target for a quarterback who likes to throw underneath routes. And then they added several back-end contributors to a defense that was already among the league’s best. They’ll be a trendy future market playoff pick come this fall.
Denver Broncos Team History
In 1983, the franchise’s fortunes changed forever with the arrival of first-round draft choice John Elway. Correlate that Elway rewrote the Broncos’ record book as a Hall of Fame quarterback. Elway and the Broncos lost three Super Bowls before finally winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 1997 and 1998. Subsequently, Elway retired to become a team executive.
Indianapolis Colts import Peyton Manning led the Broncos to two Super Bowls. Including their last Super Bowl championship in 2015, they retired after the game. Since then, the Broncos have not had a credible quarterback. Until the arrival of Russell Wilson in 2022. Or so they thought. Now, Bo Nix does seem to be the answer after a playoff campaign as a rookie starter.
