Seattle Seahawks 2009 Football Odds

Football odds on the Seattle Seahawks should have them favored more often than they were in 2008. The Seahawks made a number of changes in the off-season and look poised to rebound nicely in 2009. Football odds had the Seahawks going 4-12 straight up a year ago and 7-8-1 against the online sports betting pointspread. The Seahawks should definitely be improved from last season with a new head coach in Jim Mora Jr., a healthy quarterback in Matt Hasselbeck and wide receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh in the fold. Online betting information shows that the team also added defensive players Colin Cole, Ken Lucas and Cory Redding. They did lose Julian Peterson and Bobby Ingram but they stole Aaron Curry in the NFL Draft and he should immediately take Peterson’s place.

Last year was a real mess for Seattle all the way around. Hasselbeck was hurt for much of the year and head coach Mike Holmgren was just playing out the string and it showed. Seattle was poor on both offense and defense as they ranked 25th in scoring and 25th in points allowed as football odds stats indicate.

2009 is looking up for Seattle in football odds though with a healthy Hasselbeck and an exciting receiver in Houshmandzadeh. Seattle needs Julius Jones to prove he is worthy of being a number one running back though or teams will be focused on Hasselbeck all year. It helps that the Seahawks have some decent receivers now and Deion Branch is a much better #2 receiver than a #1 receiver.

Football odds information shows that the defense should be vastly improved in 2009 with the offseason moves and overall should put more pressure on the ball. Lofa Tatupu and Aaron Curry give Seattle two excellent linebackers and Cory Redding should solidify the defensive front and give Patrick Kearney some help up front.

Oftentimes when a team goes 4-12 things are not looking that good but that is not the case with Seattle in online sports betting. The Seahawks play in a weak division and could easily challenge Arizona for the top spot in the NFC West this season in football odds and make the playoffs. Football odds makers still have Seattle a 50-1 longshot to win Super Bowl XLIV but the Seahawks have to look no farther than last year’s Cardinals to see anything is possible in the NFL.
