San Diego Chargers at San Francisco 49ers- NFL Preseason Betting

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

Football betting action for the preseason concludes on Friday night as the San Francisco 49ers host the San Diego Chargers.

Normally the Chargers would be solid favorites in NFL betting in this matchup but that may not be the case here.  The Chargers are expected to rest a number of starters while others will get limited playing time according to football betting information.  Week 4 NFL odds could easily have the 49ers favored in this football betting matchup.

Football betting may end up favoring the 49ers because more of their starters will see action.  The 49ers are still looking for reps for their quarterbacks.  J.T. O’Sullivan, Alex Smith and Shaun Hill have been battling for the starting job all season according to football betting information.  While that should mean that the 49ers have the edge at quarterback according to football betting information, it should not be forgotten that San Diego has a quality backup in Billy Volek behind Phillip Rivers and Charlie Whitehurst has also seen playing time in the past during the preseason.

The Chargers really don’t have anything to prove in this game which is why some NFL betting experts will look to San Francisco in this game.  The Chargers will not be playing their star players like Rivers or LaDainian Tomlinson very long, if at all according to NFL betting information.  That means a healthy does of Volek and Whitehurts along with running backs Jacob Hester and Darren Sproles according to NFL betting information.  The 49ers are likely to rest running back Frank Gore which means De’Shaun Foster and Michael Robinson should see a lot of action according to football betting information.

Football betting history shows that the Chargers and 49ers have met 36 times in the preseason with the series tied at 18 wins each according to football betting numbers.  The teams have met every year in the preseason going back to 1986 according to football betting numbers.  The Chargers have four of the last five in the series according to football betting stats.

Take a look at the Week 4 NFL odds for this football betting matchup today.
