football player holding helmet and ball above headThe 2014 NFL Preseason game between the San Diego Chargers and the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle ended with the Seahawks having a big win 41-14 over San Diego! Also, the Seahawks covered the spread as 6 point home favorites, with the total going Over the 38 1/2 point line that was set for the game.

For the Seahawks‘ QB Russell Wilson, this game was his first home appearance since winning last year’s Super Bowl and it was very much like their domination in the Super Bowl with a limited performance. Wilson threw for some 121 yards and scored two TDs running the ball in the win over the Chargers.

In this game, Wilson did a little of everything as he was pressured and still completed passes, scrambled when the pressure created running place, threw very accurately to his receivers, and managed the offense very well. This was a welcome turnaround after he struggled somewhat in their first game against the Broncos.

This game he completed his first eight throws and was 11 of 13. Wilson ran for 31 yards in the first half as the Seahawks had 260 yards of offense of which Wilson was the QB for 255 of those yards.

The relieving QB’s for Seattle were Pryor and Daniels, who combined for four TDs rushing. Pryor actually had more time than Daniels and was 1 of 4 passing but had a 44 yard run for a TD as he ran away from the defense. He also had a 6 yard scamper for a touchdown.

Seattle was able to get some of their other stars into the game. Harvin had four catches for 31 yards, a big improvement over 2013, when he had 5 receptions for the season.

RB Turbin played in the place of Lynch and had 12 carries for some 81 yards. He displayed his open field abilities as he cut back on the defense for 47 yards on one possession and also bullied his way for a one yard TD with his display of physical power.

The starting QB for the Chargers, Philip Rivers, only played one series before he was relieved by Clemens who played mostly with the first team offense; they only managed gaining some 42 yards against the Seahawks stingy defense and 37 of those yards came in one drive that Rivers led before he left the game.

To the surprise of many, QB Wilson returned for Seattle for another series of downs as they worked on their hurry-up offense. In that series, he took the Seahawks in only 4 minutes with 67 yards gained that included his scramble of 5 yards for a TD.

In this preseason game, the Seahawks, under Coach Carroll, were able to resolve the penalty problems they had in the first game with Denver as they were penalized 13 times. In the first half, they had 5 of the 6 penalties on third down.

In NFL betting odds, the Seahawks are still the favorite to win the Super Bowl, with +585 futures odds. They are +330 to win the NFC Championship, and their win over/under is set at 11. Seattle next takes on the Chicago Bears. In that game, the Hawks are -7 point home favorites, and the over/under for the game is set at 45 points.
