Recap – Jaguars Cover at Bears in the Preseason

game footage of Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ersAs the NFL Preseason is underway, we recap the Chicago Bears’ game with the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Thursday the 14th of August 2014. The Bears won that game 20-19 over the Jaguars, but lost against the spread as 3 point home favorites. The total went Under the 42 point line that had been set for the matchup.

Veteran QB Chad Henne and their first round draft selection Blake Bortles and both performed well at the quarterback position. Henne passed for one TD on 130 yards, while Bortles threw for 160 yards. Back up QB Palmer rallied the Bears to win over Jacksonville.

The Bears’ Palmer is competing with Clausen for the backup QB for the team, as Palmer led the team to 2 TDs in the 4th quarter.

Experts claim the decision on starting or sitting a first round rookie QB can make or break coaches, the team and even a General Manager. The management at Jacksonville has strong feelings for Henne. In this preseason game, he displayed his mobility and was 12 for 17 from the pocket taking the Jaguars to a lead of 13-7 in the 2nd quarter before he was relieved.

The Bears‘ starting QB Jay Cutler threw 7 for 9 and 79 yards and then was relieved after he tossed a 4 yard touchdown pass to Marshall early in the 2nd. Backup Clausen seemed to have headset problems and struggled, but had a strong game last week for the Bears. Clausen was formally with the Carolina Panthers and was 11 for 15 with 94 yards and was intercepted by a linebacker’s deflection in the 3rd quarter. Then Palmer led the team in the 4th quarter and was 6 for 9 with 73 yards.

It was incredible that the Jaguars were able to score on their three first quarter possessions as they took a 13-0 lead that include two FG’s by Scobee and a TD as Henne connected with Lee for a TD of six yards, which came about as the Bears’ Weem fumbled a kickoff return.

Chicago came back in the 2nd quarter, as QB Cutler hit Marshall with a short TD pass, and then a field goal by Jaguars Scobee made in 16-7.

The Jags next face the Detroit Lions, where Jacksonville is a 3 point road dog. The over/under is set at 44 1/2 points for that game. The Bears have a tough preseason matchup in Seattle, and are 7 point road underdogs, according to the SBG Global betting odds. The over/under is 45 points in that game.
