Ravens Face Must Win Betting on NFL Showdown with Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens NFL Week 9 Betting Preview

Following last year’s failure to make the playoffs Baltimore came within a whisker of firing head coach John Harbaugh.  It follows that Harbaugh’s stay of execution meant that a playoff berth was mandatory for 2018.  And after a 4-2 start the recent two game Betting on NFL losing streak has given the Ravens coach one of the hottest seats in the NFL.  Contrarily Pittsburgh’s slow start of one win in their first four games is a distant memory.  Consider a two-game winning streak that has put them a top the NFC North.  But Sunday they face a desperate rival.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh is 4-2-1 straight up and 4-3 against the spread with five games clearing the total.  Last week the Steelers scored a 33-18 home payout over Cleveland.  Correlate a Pittsburgh offense that ranks fourth in the NFL.  Most important of all the defense has climbed to 15th in the league after a terrible start.  Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has a 94.5 rating with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions.  Of major concern is the continued holdout of running back Le’Veon Bell.  Consequently, James Conner has improved in Bell’s absence to average 4.7 yards per carry with nine touchdowns.

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore is 4-4 both straight up and vs. the odds with five of their games staying under the number.  Last week the Ravens were blown out at Carolina 36-21.  It was the third time in four outings that Baltimore failed to get the cash.  Despite the fact they lost last week the Ravens still rank best in the NFL for defense.  Counter to that is an offense ranked 14th in the league.  Due to a ground game that ranks 24th in the NFL more pressure is on quarterback Joe Flacco.

Stats to Consider

Pittsburgh has been a strong betting on NFL value as a road dog recently.  To show, the Steelers have lost just one of their last seven on the board in that role.  Four of Pittsburgh’s last six as away pups have gone under the total.  Counter to that is Baltimore’s weak value as a home chalk.  The Ravens have covered just five of their last 11 laying points at MT&T Bank Stadium.  Three of their last five in that role went under the total.

Team vs. Team

Baltimore has dominated their online wagering series with Pittsburgh as of late.  For example, the Steelers have paid in just one of their last eight games with the Ravens.  Just two of the last eight in this matchup have gone over the total.  Additionally, at MT&T Stadium the Ravens have paid in three of their last four against Pittsburgh.  All four of those games went under the total.

Matchup to Watch

This matchup is among the best Betting on NFL rivalries in the game.  As was previously noted the Ravens have had the better of this series.  Extending their matchup advantage is the desperation they’ll play with at home.  Besides that Baltimore has the better defense in the matchup.

Steelers vs. Ravens Betting on NFL Picks

In sum their top-rated defense points to a Baltimore payout in their most important home game of the season.
