Pro Football Betting Sunday Night: Dallas Cowboys vs. Houston Texans

Dallas Cowboys vs. Houston Texans

Extending a pressure packed Pro Football betting weekend is a Sunday night matchup of letdown teams.   Both Dallas and Houston were considered bona fide playoff contenders for the 2018 season.  So too was there legitimate reason for that prognostication.  Yet the Cowboys and Texans have been subpar and lacking.  For Dallas the problem has been a punchless offense that has performed far below projections.  Contrarily the Texans problem has been inconsistent defense that may provide openings to the Cowboys.  Regardless of their records and issues a win Sunday night can cure many ills.   And change momentum.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas enters this Pro Football betting matchup with a record of 2-2 straight up but 1-3 against the spread.  Further, the Cowboys have gone under the total in three of their four games.   In particular Dallas has seen their defense emerge as an asset.  The Cowboys will enter this game ranked fifth overall in the league defensively.  Balanced against that is an offense that ranks 30th in the NFL for scoring.  Defensive coordinators have appeared to have solved quarterback Dak Prescott.  Thus far Prescott has an 85.2 rating with just four touchdown passes and two interceptions.

Houston Texans

Houston has a sportsbook online record of 1-3 both straight up and vs. the line. Following that is a 2-2 split on totals.  Owing to a defense that ranks 22nd in the NFL is cause for the rough start.  Offensively the Texans have been far better and rank fifth in the league.  In the same way quarterback Deshaun Watson has been an asset.  For example, Watson has a 93.5 passer rating with seven touchdowns and four interceptions.

Stats to Consider

For all of that negativity of a 1-3 start Houston is coming off a high.  Consider the Texans 37-34 overtime win at the Colts.  On the other hand, the Colts are not at all good.  Counter to that is a do or die road win that gets Houston back on track.  Dallas also scored a critical 26-24 home win over Detroit.  Despite the fact that the Cowboys won they failed to get the money.  Granted, the overlay hurt but Dallas did avoid the disaster of a 1-3 start.

Team vs. Team

Namely the Cowboys have struggled recently as road dogs.  In fact, the Cowboys have covered just one of their last six in that role.  Additionally, Dallas has gone over in one their last five as away pups.  By contrast the Texans have been lacking as a home chalk.  Houston has paid in only three of their last nine laying points at NRG Stadium.  Three of their last five in that situation went over the total.

Matchup to Watch

On this occasion the Dallas offense vs. Houston defense is the Pro Football betting key.  To be exact Prescott and the Cowboys should find vulnerabilities.  While the Dallas defense should check Watson and the Texans on offense.

Cowboys vs. Texans Pro Football Betting Picks

Dallas has covered two of their last three against the Texans.  In the second place they paid in their last visit to Houston.  For that reason the Cowboys are the call.
