Philadelphia Eagles at Atlanta NFL Betting

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL betting on Sunday includes a key NFC game as the Atlanta Falcons host the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both teams got big wins last week as they Eagles defeated Washington while the Falcons defeated Tampa Bay. Neither team covered the football betting odds last week though.

NFL betting had the Eagles winning 27-24 against Washington while the Falcons came from behind to defeat Tampa Bay 20-17. David Akers made four field goals while Donovan McNabb threw for 260 yards and one TD. The win by the Eagles kept them in position to catch Dallas in the NFC East.

The Falcons got a touchdown pass from backup quarterback Chris Redman as they overcame two key injuries to defeat Tampa Bay last week.  The Falcons lost starting quarterback Matt Ryan and starting running back Michael Turner to injuries last week.  It was a huge comeback win for the Falcons and their backup quarterback.  Redman had only played a couple of plays since Matt Ryan took over at quarterback.  He almost didn’t succeed either as he threw three straight incomplete passes from the Tampa Bay five yard line but on fourth down he hit Roddy White for the game winning TD. Redman was 23 of 41 for 243 yards as NFL betting stats show.

The Eagles have done very well in this NFL betting matchup. The Eagles have won 7 of the last 10 straight up and they are 8-1-1 against the football betting pointspread.  These two teams met last year in Philadelphia and the Eagles won 27-14 as they covered the 9.5 point number in NFL betting.  The Eagles also won at home in 2006 by a score of 24-17 in football betting.  The teams played in Atlanta in 2005 and the Falcons won 14-10.  The last six games between the two teams in NFL betting have all gone under the total.

Philadelphia has been winning this football betting season with an offense that is in the Top 10 in the league. The Philadelphia defense has not been as good this season as they are outside of the Top 10.  The Falcons have very similar numbers as they are right around the Top 10 in points scored and below average on defense.  The Falcons have been much better this season versus the NFL betting pointspread at home so that his something to keep in mind in this game.
