Thursday NFL Preseason Betting – Patriots vs. Giants on NFL Network

Two games will get the national spotlight on Thursday night in NFL preseason betting. The first game that will be televised on the NFL Network has the New York Giants hosting the New England Patriots. The early part of the game should be entertaining if the starters for each team get on the field.

NFL preseason betting at the Sbg sportsbook will likely favor the Giants on Thursday since they are at home. The Patriots also probably will play their starters less than New York which is another reason the Giants will be favored.  New England head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t like to play his starters much in the final preseason game.  On the other side, New York head coach Tom Coughlin may want to get his starters a little more action considering how poorly they have played.  Eli Manning also could need a little extra work since he missed the game two weeks ago due to injury and only played a half last week.

New York Needs a Good Game:  The Giants were very poor last week in a 24-10 loss to Baltimore. The defense was sickening and the offense was not much better. Quarterback Eli Manning was rusty last week after missing the previous week due to injury.  He was just 9 for 18 for 63 yards and an interception.  The running game was nothing special as Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw combined for 63 yards.

Backup QB’s – The Patriots have Brian Hoyer as their backup to Tom Brady. Since Brady won’t play long it will basically be Hoyer’s game. He has been pretty good in relief of Brady in the preseason so the Patriots are not hopeless. The Giants have a major problem after Eli Manning leaves the game on Thursday.  Their backup is Jim Sorgi but he has been hurt.  It has been third-string quarterback Rhett Bomar who has been getting most of the action.  He doesn’t really give you much confidence.  You might like to make your bet on the Giants in this game against the NFL preseason odds but you have to worry about Bomar playing poorly.  It is possible that Sorgi will return for this game and if so, that could be good news for New York since Sorgi will want to play well to make sure he still has the backup quarterback job.
