AFC Champion New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII

A clear difference with the New England Patriots and the rest of the NFL is their championship record.  The combination of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady has proven to be the greatest of all time.  This year marks the ninth Super Bowl betting appearance for the dynamic duo.  Further this is the Patriots third consecutive Super Sunday appearance.  More emphatically New England’s AFC Championship game win at Kansas City reminded all of their greatness and clutch ability.  Increasingly this once hated team is growing in esteem and respect.  Naturally, the Pats are Super Bowl chalks again!

Favorite to Win

Although New England is now the Super Bowl betting favorite when the playoffs started many wrote them off for dead.  The Patriots were “only” 11-5 straight up, 9-7 vs. the odds and 5-11 under the total.  However, the playoffs have brought out the best in New England.  The LA Chargers were the divisional round victims in a 41-28 road loss.  And in the AFC championship the Patriots overcame a talented Kansas City Chiefs team in a 37-31 road overtime win.  Quarterback Tom Brady time and again kept the Pats alive with do or die third down conversions.

Team Brady

On the whole Brady has again demonstrated why his is the greatest NFL quarterback of all time.  Subsequently his presence alone makes the Pats an understandable offshore betting favorite.  Certainly, his numbers are among the best.  But what separates Brady from the pack is his intangibles.  Nobody in history can match his clutch ability to win under the highest of stakes and pressure.  For the 2018 season Brady finished with 29 touchdown passes and a rating of 97.7.  He threw for 4355 yards.  Most important of all at Kansas City he demonstrated the epitome of championship quarterbacking.

Bill Belichick

In the same way head coach Bill Belichick has done what everyone said was impossible.  In 2001 the NFL deliberately set salary cap rules to block any chance of a dynasty.  Further, the NFL Draft was always set up to help the bad teams and punish the best.  Yet Belichick has cracked the code.  Though this may be the era of structured parity the Patriots have dominated like no other franchise in history.  In the same way “The Hoodie” has masterminded roster turnover and perpetually plugging in replacement parts.  In turn he is a guaranteed Hall of Famer.

Bob Kraft

Owner Bob Kraft bought one of the NFL’s sad sack franchises 25 years ago.  But in short order he set in place the pieces of a dynasty.  Counter to most NFL owners is Kraft’s way of doing business.  He doesn’t let his ego get in the way.

Matchup to Watch

Consider since 2001 the Patriots have posted five Super Bowl betting Championships.  And this will be their ninth Super Bowl since then.  Brady and Belichick are the constants.  As is the winning.
