NFL Week 8 Recap

NFL Week 8 Recap and Game Handicapping Analysis. The news that Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb is out of Monday night’s game against the 49ers make this matchup a foregone conclusion. Does anyone expect Arizona to pull off an upset tonight? The only real question is will they cover the 7-point spread. But with one game left to be played in Week 8 of the NFL regular season, let’s take a look back at some of the most important games from this past weekend, as we wait for tonight’s Monday Night Football action.

On Thursday night, the Buccaneers defeated the Vikings in Minnesota, 36-17. This was a surprising one, as the Vikings were 6 ½ point favorites. But as we said, the underdog was 8-1 ATS in Minnesota games going into this one, and the trend held up. The dog is now 9-1 ATS in Vikings games.

The Bears had a tough time against the Carolina Panthers, winning 23-22 on a last-second field goal. Chicago was a 7 ½ point favorite to win at home, but just barely won, failing to cover. Our analysis of that game mentioned the Panthers were 4-1 ATS off of a spread loss, while the Bears were 1-7 ATS as favorites in the 2nd of two home games. The Steelers pretty easily defeated the Redskins in Pittsburgh, winning 27-12. Skins QB Robert Griffin III was held to under 50%, throwing just 16-of-34. The Steelers were 4 ½ point home favorites, covering easily. As we said in that one, the home team is 10-3 ATS in Pittsburgh games. Make that 11-3 now.

The Giants got their revenge against the Cowboys for that opening day loss. New York won 29-24, as 2 point road favorites. That line opened up favoring the Cowboys at -1. However, we said that the visitor was 6-0-1 lately in Giants games, and that Dallas was 1-6 ATS following a SU win. It took a fourth-quarter rally to do it, but the Giants covered the spread in this one.

Last night’s late game featured the Broncos hosting the Saints, with Denver winning 34-14. So Peyton Manning got his revenge against Drew Brees for Super Bowl XLIV. The Broncos were 6 point home favorites and covered. All of the trends pointed to a Saints victory in this one, except the fact that the Broncos were 8-2 ATS coming off of a bye week.
