NFL Week 8 Offers Intriguing Quarterback Matchups

Two teams who figure to be in the 2025 NFL Playoffs hunt will kick off Week 8 with the NFL odds. To illustrate, it is a Thursday night Prime Video matchup of the Minnesota Vikings and the LA Chargers from SoFi Stadium. Certainly, it’s possible that these teams could clash in the Super Bowl come February. The Vikings are an interesting study under 4th-year head coach Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell has gone 13-4, 7-10, 14-3 in his three seasons in Minnesota. However, the Vikings lost in the wild-card round in both of their playoff appearances.

It is true that the Vikings never wanted QB Sam Darnold and tried to trade him during last season. Darnold has moved on to the Seattle Seahawks. As a result, 2024 first-round draft pick JJ McCarthy is number one on the depth chart. By contrast, for the Chargers, the QB is experienced with Justin Herbert under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Of course, Harbaugh was McCarthy’s head coach at the University of Michigan when they won the 2023 national championship.

In the early Sunday window, the Baltimore Ravens will host the Chicago Bears. Indeed, it is an intriguing online wagering QB matchup with Caleb Williams and Lamar Jackson. Williams did not inspire confidence in his rookie season as the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. As a result, the Bears hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator and quarterback whisperer Ben Johnson as their new head coach. Johnson has been tasked with getting Williams’ mind right and developing a respectable Chicago offense.

A high-profile NFL betting odds matchup that is expected to draw attention and betting action is scheduled for the late afternoon window. The Denver Broncos are hosting the Dallas Cowboys. Denver impressed everyone in 2024 by making the playoffs with rookie QB Bo Nix. Correlate that Nix was tutored well by head coach Sean Payton. Hence, Payton demonstrated why he has the reputation of being the ultimate NFL quarterback whisperer.

Although owner Dallas Jerry Jones is not a total failure as a general manager, he has never come close to a Super Bowl. Now in his early 80s, Jones is desperate to go out in glory. But his desperation has only made things worse. Not much is expected from the Cowboys this year. Thus, the surprise element will help the Dallas cause.

Speaking of name brands that capture national attention, the Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Green Bay Packers on NBC Sunday Night Football. Certainly, NBC loves that Aaron Rodgers will go up against his former team.
