NFL preseason odds in Week 3 are pretty close to what they would be in the regular season. That is the case with this game. Philadelphia might be a one or two point favorite in the regular season but the Chiefs are expected to be improved in 2010 and they are at home.
Last Season: When these teams met last year in the regular season it was ugly as the Eagles routed the Chiefs 34-14.
The Eagles are a different team this season with Kevin Kolb at quarterback and Kansas City looks different with new offensive and defensive coordinators. Kolb actually played against the Chiefs last season and threw for 327 yards and two touchdowns so he has fond memories of Kansas City.
Different Kansas City Team: This is not the same Kansas City team of a year ago. They don’t have Larry Johnson running the ball. Instead they have the duo of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones.
The defense should be improved with first round draft choice Eric Berry leading the way. The new offensive coordinator for Kansas City is Charlie Weis while the new defensive coordinator is Romeo Crennel.
Motivated Philadelphia Offense: The Eagles were pathetic last week on offense in a 22-9 loss to Cincinnati. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was not happy and wants a better effort this week. The Eagles first string offense has not scored a TD in two games.
Philadelphia should get a boost on offense as running back Mike Bell will play for the first time in the preseason. He should provide a nice change up to LeSean McCoy in the backfield.
Take the Over: Is taking this game over the total worth a shot? The Eagles want to be a lot better on offense this week and although Kansas City’s defense should be better they are not likely to shutdown Kolb. Kansas City’s offense also wants to put in a good performance as they have scored just 25 points in two games.
