The New England Patriots are not expected to have much trouble in NFL preseason betting on Thursday as they host the St. Louis Rams. The Patriots are considered one of the best teams in the NFL while the Rams are one of the worst. The third preseason game is when the starters play more and that probably spells bad news in NFL preseason odds for St. Louis.
NFL preseason betting is not going to be very popular on the Rams in this game but it should be noted that they won and covered last week against Cleveland. Winning against New England is another story though.
Brady and the Patriots: New England looked very good last week in a 28-10 rout of Atlanta. Quarterback Tom Brady was sharp and wide receiver Wes Welker has made a remarkable recovery and looks to be near full strength. Brady had a TD pass as he went 10 for 12 and the defense was pretty good.
Head coach Bill Belichick rarely gives out compliments but he actually said the team played well. Keep in mind that the Patriots also have a quality backup quarterback in Brian Hoyer and he has looked very sharp in the preseason.
St. Louis Quarterbacks: If you make a bet on the Rams against the NFL odds at SBG you should know that their quarterbacks have not been very good so far this preseason. A.J. Feeley was hurt last week but he will probably play on Thursday. Top pick Sam Bradford is going through his growing pains.
He was 6 of 14 for only 24 yards last week. Feeley at least threw a TD pass last week. The Rams had 178 total yards last week and only 150 the previous week. If you take the Rams you have to hope that the Patriots don’t take the game seriously.
Against the Grain: Do you go against the grain and bet the Rams in this game? There is no question the public is going to be all over the Patriots in this game. Can you close your eyes and bet the Rams? It won’t be easy to do and the bet may not even win but there is no question that is where the value is in this game.
