NFL Preseason Betting Line Angles

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL preseason betting line angles are interesting to consider as you handicap the games.

How have teams done in certain situations versus the NFL preseason odds.  Let’s take a look.

NFL preseason betting line angles tell us that teams coming off two straight wins both straight up and against the spread have done pretty well.  They have really done well when on the road in Week 3 going 14-6-1 against the NFL preseason odds at the online sportsbook.  Last year it was Seattle fitting into that situation and they were 5.5 point underdogs against San Diego and covered the NFL preseason betting line.  Teams playing well in the preseason oftentimes continue that strong play all four weeks.

Another of the NFL preseason betting line angles involves teams that were solid favorites at home or favored on the road or a small one point dog on the road. These teams are overrated by the public against the NFL betting line because the public is all over them.  Since 1999 these teams are 3-10 against the NFL preseason odds at the online sportsbook.  Two of those online betting covers came in the last two years after this system was 8-0 previously against the NFL preseason betting line.

Another angle to look at comes up quickly versus the NFL preseason betting line.  In week 2 you may have teams that are coming off a close loss in Week 1.  Teams that lost by 1 to 3 points are very good in Week 2 if they are on the road as they bounce back well. They are 14-6 in the last 10 years versus the NFL preseason betting line in that situation.

What about an online betting angle for Week 4 versus the NFL preseason betting line?  This is the week that is tough for many online betting gamblers because most of the starters play very little.  Teams coming off a big loss, 20 points or more will bounce back in Week 4 more often than not.  They are 9-7 against the NFL preseason betting line in that situation.  That should give you something to look at as you consider the lines for the final week of the preseason.

Take a look at some of these situations that apply to the NFL preseason betting line.  They should give you a chance to make money versus the NFL preseason odds this season.
