NFL Preseason Betting – Cowboys an Underdog at Houston in Preseason Action

When you look at the odds in NFL preseason betting for Week 3 you might be surprised to see the Dallas Cowboys an underdog at Houston. The Cowboys are one of the Super Bowl favorites and even though they are on the road this number in NFL preseason odds is somewhat surprising.

NFL preseason betting lines list the Texans as three-point favorites on Saturday as the host the Cowboys.  The total at the Sbg sportsbook is at 40.5.  One thing to keep in mind in this game is that it is the fourth preseason game for the Cowboys since they played in the Hall of Fame Game.

The Cowboys have really not played well in the preseason but head coach Wade Phillips doesn’t seem too concerned. He said that the team is tired and that they are not going to be fully focused on Saturday’s game against Houston.  If that sounds strange, it is.

But the Cowboys are 9-2 under Phillips in September regular season games so maybe it doesn’t matter.  At the same time, this game on Saturday is a dress rehearsal game as starters normally play into the third quarter.  While Phillips has said his team is tired he also says this week’s game is important.

Sounds like typical Phillips doesn’t it?  And you want to bet on a Wade Phillips coached team to win the Super Bowl?

Houston Concerns: Houston comes into Saturday’s game winless in the preseason at 0-2 so they have some incentive to win.

Houston has some issues that are a concern as they still are not sold on their starting running back for the season opener and they don’t have a solid replacement for linebacker Brian Cushing who will miss the first four games of the season due to suspension.

The Texans have no idea what they are going to do at linebacker and they are not real sure about running back either. Steve Slaton and Arian Foster are expected to split playing time on Saturday.

How About Playing the Total?  Since it is unclear how serious Dallas is taking this game perhaps playing the total is the way to go.  Houston has proven they can’t stop anyone so Dallas should score some points.

Matt Schaub and the Houston offense are always good for some scores so this game should get over the total of 40.5 in NFL preseason odds.
