NFL Odds – Jaguars Could be Down to Third-String QB on Sunday

Eventually there will be NFL odds on the game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs but oddsmakers were waiting to see who Jacksonville would start at quarterback. What we do know is that the Chiefs are going to be favored in NFL lines, probably by a touchdown or more.

Jacksonville Quarterback Injuries
The Jaguars could be down to their third-string quarterback on Sunday.  Starter David Garrard suffered a concussion in last week’s game and had not even been on the field earlier this week.  Backup Trent Edwards had a sprained thumb and he hadn’t done much in practice.  Third-string quarterback Todd Bouman was running the first team offense in practice and could get the start on Sunday. Jacksonville had to go out and get Patrick Ramsey off the street to run the scout team.  If Bouman gets the start it would be his first since 2005.  The Jaguars figure to run the ball a lot with Maurice Jones-Drew and keep the passing to a minimum.  Even Bouman should be able to handle that.

Value on Jacksonville?
This is going to sound weird but there may be some value in taking Jacksonville against the point spread at the Sbg global sportsbook.  What you have to remember about injuries is that a team will oftentimes step up and play well when a player is out.  And it is not like Garrard or Edwards is very good anyway.  Bouman is at least a quarterback who has NFL experience.  He can’t be a whole lot worse than Edwards.  And the Jaguars are going to be getting absolutely no play from gamblers this week.  Everyone is going to be in love with the Chiefs against the NFL odds. It should be noted though that the Chiefs have lost two straight and they are not a team that normally blows out opponents.  The Jaguars are 4-1-1 against the NFL lines in their last 6 games following a double-digit loss at home.  The one trend that might keep you off of the Jaguars is that they are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The one trend you have in your favor though is that the Chiefs are 7-16 against the NFL odds in their last 23 home games.
