NFL Odds – Eagles Starting Linebacker Out for the Season

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL odds at the sportsbook on the Philadelphia Eagles have them as one of the favorites to win this year’s Super Bowl.

Those NFL odds probably won’t be adjusted but it is worth noting that the Eagles will be without their starting middle linebacker this season as Stewart Bradley is out with an ACL tear.  NFL betting lines at the sports book will still be popular on the Eagles but Philadelphia has taken a hit.

NFL odds tell us that Bradley was a huge part of the Philadelphia defense last season.  He and Quintin Mikell had seemed to be taking over the leadership of Philadelphia’s defense since Brian Dawkins departed as NFL odds indicate. "We’re always getting that question – ‘Who’s going to step up?’ The bottom line is we’ve got guys who are willing to do whatever it takes to win," strong safety Mikell said.

NFL odds tell us that Omar Gaither is one of the contenders to step in and take Bradley’s spot. Joe Mays is another player that could fill the gap as NFL odds info has it.  Mikell is pointing to Mays to be the guy. "Joe Mays, he’s got to step up," Mikell said. "He’s got to grow quickly. I think he’s ready. He’s definitely hungry and ready to do that."

If you don’t think that NFL odds at the sports book might not be impacted by Bradley’s injury take a listen to what Cowboys tight end Jason Witten had to say. "That’s huge," Witten said, "Playing against that defense last year, he was really the one that made it go. He probably didn’t get as much credit as he deserved. He was as good as any middle linebacker we played last year. I thought he was a really, really good player.”

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said that Bradley’s injury is a “major loss.”  What also hurts the Eagles in NFL odds is that defensive coordinator Jim Johnson is no longer there to mix and match players.  That will be up to Sean McDermott and he simply can’t do it as well as Johnson did and the Eagles will suffer in NFL betting lines.

The Eagles are getting a lot of respect in NFL odds this season at the sports book.  They are going to be favored in NFL betting lines many times in 2009.  They may be overvalued though in NFL odds.  NFL betting lines show that with the loss of Bradley and Jim Johnson’s passing away, the Eagles defense is not going to be as good.  That will be a major point to remember as you bet NFL odds in 2009.
