NFL Football Betting – Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers

December 1, 2010 NFL Football

NFL football betting for Week 3 includes the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Detroit Lions.

Neither team is usually popular in NFL football betting although both teams were expected to be improved this season. NFL betting should be competitive on this game, even though neither team is thought of as a strong NFC contender.

NFL football betting stats show that the 49ers have owned this series. Since 1991 the teams have met 10 times and San Francisco has won nine of the games according to NFL football betting stats. The only win by Detroit was in 1995 according to NFL football betting stats. The 49ers have also been very successful against the NFL betting pointspread, going 7-2-1 in those games. Since 2000 the 49ers have won and covered all three meetings against the NFL football betting pointspread. All three of those games went under the NFL betting total. Overall, in the last 10 meetings between the two teams six games went under the NFL football betting total. Three of the last four meetings at San Francisco went under the NFL football betting total with one push.

This NFL football betting matchup will hold a little intrigue since San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz was with Detroit last season. On paper, the Lions have the edge offensively according to NFL football betting experts while the 49ers have the edge defensively. The Lions have Jon Kitna at quarterback and a talented duo of receivers in Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams. The 49ers do have the best running back between the two teams though in Frank Gore. J.T. O’Sullivan leads the 49ers offense at quarterback.

Neither of these two teams is thought of as a serious contender in the NFC in terms of NFL football betting but both could impact their respective divisional races. The Lions are thought to have more talent by NFL betting experts but they have continually disappointed with general manager Matt Millen at the helm. The 49ers have not done anything recently either and head coach Mike Nolan is feeling the heat.
