NFL Betting Odds – More Bad News for Winless Panthers

September 29th, 2022 NFL Football Betting Online Odds

The lowest scoring team in the NFL is getting more bad news that won’t help their cause against the NFL betting odds. The Carolina Panthers will likely be without star receiver Steve Smith for this week’s game against the Chicago Bears.  Smith has a high ankle sprain and those types of injuries are tough to come back from quickly.  The only positive for the Panthers in terms of NFL odds is that they have a bye after this week’s game vs. the Bears.

The Bears are 2-point favorites this week at the Sbg sportsbook against the Panthers.  It is really hard to like Carolina considering they are 0-4 and without a quality quarterback and now without their top receiver.

John Fox on Thin Ice – If the Panthers lose this game against the Bears it is very possible that head coach John Fox will be fired during the bye week. The Panthers are already 0-4 and going nowhere with Fox.  The Panthers have no offense at all. They are the lowest scoring team in the NFL and the loss of Smith definitely doesn’t help.  Smith got hurt in last week’s 16-14 loss to New Orleans.

Pathetic Offense – The Panthers are averaging a horrible 11.5 points per game which is last in the NFL.  A college team could probably come in and do better than this rotten offense has done.  And it is a major mystery as to why they are struggling. The Panthers have a great wide receiver in Steve Smith and two quality running backs in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. They don’t have a quarterback though and that is a major problem.  Rookie Jimmy Clausen looks totally lost and is in way over his head.  Mel Kiper was totally wrong about Clausen but what else is new with Kiper.

More Rookies – The Panthers are going to have to go with rookies Davis Gettis and Brandon LaFell this week in place of Smith.  That does not bode well for scoring points against a tough Chicago defense.

Nothing to Like about Carolina – There is simply nothing to like about Carolina right now against the NFL betting odds. They should have won last week against New Orleans but didn’t although they did cover the spread. Now they don’t have their top receiver and their head coach could be on the way out.  It is tough to take Carolina this week only getting two points at home vs. Chicago.
